Statement

Pablo Antonio Alvarez is an artist. Born in Cuba, based in South Florida and San Francisco. He holds a bachelor’s degree in fine arts, from New World School of the Arts and a master’s degree in sculpture from California College of The Arts.

At Nova southeastern university, he is the Director of Technical Theater. He also teaches pottery & ceramics, as well as sculpture and other art forms. In his personal art practice, he works mainly with ceramics, pottery, sculpture, drawing and painting. He uses materials like ceramics clay, glazes, textiles, wood, acrylics, oil paints and ink on paper.

The principal themes in his work are criticisms of the communist regime in Cuba. He also has a large series of works relating to OCD and its spiritual relationship, as well as neo-Christian art. He expresses these elements in a balance between representation and ambiguity.

“Art is an enterprise. Like science and religion, information and dialogue are caried, transformed and passed on from generation to generation. There is no escaping it and thus, no point in resisting.”
